Abstract

This report describes the Project-based Learning Community (PLC) of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and assesses its impact on student performance. Using statistical tools and student grade data, PLC participants were tested against a control group for differences in academic achievement in physics, math, and humanities. We also investigated the impact of the PLC on project grades and freshmen retention. The study found that PLC participants had significantly higher physics grades (P<0.001) and greater retention (P=0.03) than the control group.
