This report prepared for the London borough of Merton presents an analysis of the borough's sporting facilities. An inventory of their playing fields was compiled and organized into a database. We formulated a supply and demand model, which would give Environmental Services an unbiased representation of sports within the Borough. The model shows that for the most recent year, pitch demand is very close to exceeding supply. The Merton Council wants to preserve its open space, realizing that when it is gone, it is lost forever.
