Abstract
A study of the new on-line WPI Calculus Placement Tests from the summer of 2007 was conducted. Analysis of the tests, student performance on the tests, and student performance in introductory calculus classes showed that the system was very effective. One important result was that higher scores on the Placement Tests were associated with superior grade distributions in calculus classes. In addition, students who followed the course recommendation given by the test tended to perform better in their first mathematics class.
