Inefficient storage in ambulances creates a dangerous environment for paramedics and patients. The purpose of this project is to design a storage system that secures, protects, and dispenses consumables and pharmaceuticals. The storage system is an automated dispensing machine that delivers items on request. This request comes through a custom-programmed interface controlled by an Arduino Uno. High injury rates have been identified in EMTs due to paramedics assuming strenuous positions in order to retrieve items. The storage system is capable of delivering items on request to a location close to the captain’s chair, and thus eliminates strenuous positions and motion by EMTs.
