It is astonishing to know that just down the street from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a college that attracts many bright and talented students, is an elementary school that is not meeting state standards for standardized test scores. In an attempt to promote literacy and encourage learning, four Worcester Polytechnic Institute students created a library for Elm Park Community School over the course three terms. By creating this library, the goal was not to just make a room with books, but create a space that the student body wants to be in, that they will want to participate in after school clubs in over hanging out on the streets. The hope of this IQP was to create a space that would make a difference in these students’ lives, & to give them to best possible materials to learn with.
