open in viewerIn this MQP, the synthesis as well as spectroscopic and photophysical properties of a conjugated dye, (2E,5E)-2-(benzofuran-2-ylmethylene)-5-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene)cyclopentanone (bydbc), were explored. The electronic absorption and fluorescence properties were examined in various nonpolar and polar solvents. Additionally, fluorescence quantum yields and fluorescence lifetimes were explored, after which first-order radiative and nonradiative rates of decay were calculated. Finally, quantum chemical calculations were performed on the compound.
