Introgression may be occurring between the species Orconectes quinebaugensis and a related invasive species, Orconectes virilis, in the Blackstone River Valley Area. While genetic analysis has already been used to investigate this event, more robust conclusions can be drawn if more data is generated. To fill this need, genetic differences between the two species were sought by performing AFLP analysis on non-hybrid members of each species. Eight members of non-hybrid Orconectes virilis were tested against four non-hybrid Orconectes quinebaugensis. Among these, twelve fragments whose occurrence correlates with species identity were located.
