Many people in America struggle to drink the recommended amount of water. To combat this we created a coaster that tracks the amount of water consumed by an individual to encourage drinking more water. The coaster uses a 5kg load cell attached to an Arduino via an HX711 ADC chip made for load cells to measure the change of the weight of the water. This information is sent via a Bluetooth Low Energy Redbear shield on the Arduino to an app on an Android phone. The changes in weight detected by the load cell are displayed as the amount of water consumed. The app compares the current amount of water drank to the usersÂ’ daily water consumption goal. The app also sends notifications reminding the user to drink. The system can track water consumption accurately to +/-3 grams.
