Abstract

The goal of this project was to design and implement the software for an autonomous robotic system to compete within the Amazon Picking Challenge. The competition is to complete a simplified shelf picking task. Team WPI is using an industrial Yaskawa Motoman robot with two 7-degree-of-freedom arms and a rotating torso. Attached to the robot are Robotiq hands for manipulation and two cameras color and depth sensing for perception. Our MQP team was responsible for integrating manipulation software object recognition software using the ROS framework, including high-level strategy software. We expect Team WPI to perform well at the competition, which will be held in May at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2015 in Seattle, WA.
