open in viewerAs one of the United States favorite pastimes, hiking has long enjoyed popularity among people of all ages and backgrounds. While hiking is a hobby for many, it is considered serious business due to the preparation and planning that is required to ensure it is done safely. Even with preparation and planning, the most experienced hikers have found themselves lost or injured. With the lack of cellular towers in national and state parks, communication with park rangers or other emergency personnel is limited. The goal of this Major Qualifying Project is to design a device that improves the safety of hikers.
