Abstract

The intravenous administration of a lipid-based oxygen suspension has been shown to raise blood oxygen saturations to survivable levels in models of asphyxia. However, emergency situations often render intravenous access impossible, so the intraosseous (IO) route is sometimes used to obtain vascular access. This study examined the pharmacokinetics of infusion of a lipid-based oxygen suspension administered through an IO line. IO infusion raised the blood oxygen content of hypoxemic animals in a manner similar to IV infusion.
