Boylston Fire Department
The objective of this research was to determine how the Boylston Fire Department could improve the quality of patient care provided during emergency medical calls. Areas of focus included reducing medical supply inventory costs and increasing EMS training rigor. Methods used included the analysis of the BFD’s compliance with MA state ambulance regulations, the application of six sigma techniques to medical inventory, and financial analysis of Boylston’s medical supplies. The results showed the need for a modernized inventory management system, and improved training to better meet the need of the EMTs. It was concluded that implementing these changes would result in overall quality improvement, and financial savings, at the Boylston Fire Department.
