The objectives of this project were to determine the start-up time and optimal running conditions for an upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactor using imbedded bacteria, and to upgrade a current wastewater treatment system used in the fiber industry. Using information collected from activity tests and daily data from the reactor, conclusions were drawn about the use of imbedded bacteria and process design. From the results an efficient treatment design was developed and the optimal operating conditions were found.
