The project focused on designing and testing enclosures that surround Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT), allowing faster air flow in order to improve the overall efficiency. Utilizing SolidWorks, the team designed different enclosures by altering the location and size of the enclosure’s inlet and outlet. The three most promising designs were identified and built for wind tunnel testing. The results show the power generated by the turbine is significantly increased with the installation of an enclosure.
