This major qualifying project compares three case studies involving space science. The first is a concept of technology 'lost and found' and looks at new technology now in development that may have been passed over for development fifty years ago. The second case study examines a local economic development initiative in Worcester, Massachusetts. Some of the proposed ideas relate directly to space technology and Worcester's potential to be a center for development in the field. The third case study examines the progress and difficulties of a WPI student team participating in a NASA centennial challenge. The combination of these three case studies have implications on a local and national level. Each section contains policy recommendations as to how best take advantage of the opportunities.
