This project investigates the effect of temperature on the performance of a DMFC using two different types of commercially available MEAs: Nafion®117-based and Celtec®-P 1000 PBI-based. With various methanol feed concentrations, the Nafion®-based MEA operated between 20 and 80°C with liquid feed, while the PBI-based MEA operated between 160 and 180°C with vapor feed. Results showed that the DMFC performance increased with temperature. However, at higher temperatures, methanol crossover became more prevalent at higher feed concentrations and thus reduced performance.
