This project proposes a safety device worn by pedestrians, capable of detecting an approaching vehicle and warning both pedestrian and driver of potential danger. Tire sound was targeted, amplified, filtered and analyzed to determine vehicle proximity. A vibrating motor and flashing LEDs were used to warn both user and driver, depending on sound level. Tests show that tire sound is a viable means of detecting approaching vehicles. Further work is necessary to optimize the system for differing cars and environments.
