Abstract
This project, conducted within the framework of the European Union's Civitas Mobilis, aims to develop an instrument capable of gathering data on passing motor boat traffic in a Venetian canal. The instrument uses neural networks to analyze the underwater sound produced by the boat engine, and thereby identify boat type. It is hoped that this data can be applied by the city of Venice toward measures to reduce the impact of "moto ondoso," or motor boat wakes, on city infrastructure.
