Today, there is no known cure for most neurological and neuromuscular disorders, like blindness, arrhythmia, and Parkinson’s. Neuroprosthetics and pharmaceuticals are current clinical solutions; however, the next frontier for more effective treatment is through optical control of electrically responsive cells. Our previously characterized photo-excitable ITO-APTMS-NK5962 SAM is a promising approach for optically innervated devices. This project aims to optimize and adapt our technology by developing photo-stimulated contraction in myotubes using my innovatively designed SlideDish and TubeIncubator cell culture products.
