open in viewerWe designed a field hockey facemask to exceed industry standards for injury mitigation caused by the ball striking the face, exceeding industry standards. The facemask, consisting of an aluminum frame with a layered foam lining, was found to reduce HIC values from impact by as much as 75%. The facemask was evaluated by striking a model head and neck using a pendulum, confirming our design.
