White River Junction Medical Center veterans are screened annually for mental health disorders. Patients who screen positive are treated in Primary Care, Primary Mental Health Care (PMHC) clinic and/or Specialized Mental Health Care clinic. We only consider patients with one or more of depression, PTSD or Alcohol Abuse. The VA needs to evaluate the effectiveness of medication and psychotherapy treatments provided. For this reason, we identified a target population and implemented a quality scale to track quality of treatments. We also analyzed the PMHC clinic to determine the workforce necessary to support a certain quality level. We utilized a discrete-event simulation model of the PMHC clinic to analyze the system if all the patients with positive screening were to be seen.
