WICN is a public jazz radio station located in Worcester, MA that broadcasts NPR news along with a wide variety of musical genres to an audience of over forty thousand. During the 2013-14 academic year, two GQP groups from WPI conducted market research on the benefit of developing a smartphone application that would allow the station’s listeners to access the music stream along with other listener requested features. This research concluded that a mobile application would be highly beneficial. Therefore, the goal of this project was to develop a native mobile application for the Android Operating System that would feature live radio streaming capabilities, display parts of the station’s website in a mobile-friendly format, alarm functions, and donation capabilities.
