Working with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, an innovative membrane was tested in a direct contact membrane distillation setup. Triple-layer membrane was tested under varying process conditions in order to optimize permeate flux and rejection rate. This revision of the membrane turned out to be unsuccessful in its claims to perform better than the classic single layer membrane. Using collected data, recommendations for improvements in the process and the fabrication of the membrane were made.
