Abstract

A walking beam mechanism at Gillette/Braun was modeled, analyzed, and redesigned to improve its dynamic behavior. It exhibited undesirable vibration. The displacement error of the transport system was decreased by 60 percent and vibration was reduced by 49 percent. The maximum acceleration of the indexing system was decreased by 6 percent at one location and by 23 percent at another. The redesigned machine will exhibit less vibration, higher efficiency, and lower scrap rate. Higher speeds may now be possible.
