Abstract

Codman, a Johnson & Johnson company, recently observed an increase in feedback about the cranial perforator they manufacture. This Major Qualifying Project performed a design of experiments to verify the design robustness and additionally developed a device to measure variables during product testing. A maximum applied force of 30-40 lbs. and an average of 52.8 ft-lbs. of work (range: 29-105 ft-lbs.) was measured. Recommendations were provided for tolerance mapping and further investigation into an automated testing device.
