Abstract

GE Silicones, Waterford, NY, uses fluidized bed reactors to produce dimethyldichloro-silane via the direct process. This project developed a computerized model to calculate the resultant bed weight and bed particle size distribution (PSD) of these reactors for given feed and reactor specifications. The model uses Levenspiel's equation imbedded in a custom designed algorithm. From the predicted bed weight and PSD, the yield and selectivity for desired product can be predicted.
