Abstract

Hydrogen bonding complementarily between hydroxy and amino groups is explored in the creation of three-component supramolecular solid solutions. Binary cocrystals of hydroquinone with p-toluidine, p-chloroniline, p-bromoaniline, and p-iodoaniline and ternary solid solutions containing hydroquinone and two different anilines are prepared. Synthesis of complementary cocrystals and solid solutions involving p-phenylenediamine and para substituted phenols is performed. Results from various syntheses, molecular and solid state characterization of products, and crystal structures of eight complexes, six cocrystals and two solid solutions, are described.
