Abstract

Modular fixtures used in industry as flexible fixtures where standard fixture components are assembled into different configurations for different part manufacturing. To ensure the quality of manufacturing, fixture performance needs to be evaluated, including fixturing stiffness. Previous experimental results in fixturing stiffness are available for T-slot based modular fixtures. The stiffness of dowel-pin based modular fixtures is studied experimentally, including experimental system design, device design, and data analysis. The results are useful for fixture design guidance and FEA modeling calibration.
