Abstract

Sarcosine oxidase is used in a three-enzyme cascade to detect levels of creatinine in human serum. This cascade can be immobilized within a biosensor for use in a blood analyzer. However, this sensor has a short use-life due to the diffusion and denaturation of the immobilized enzymes. The enzyme with the shorter lifespan within this sensor is sarcosine oxidase. This project investigates membranes that will immobilize sarcosine oxidase to prevent diffusion denaturation, thus extending the use-life of the sensors. The data indicates that PVA-sbq and MAPTAC 25 membranes serve as an excellent immobilizing media.
