The European Union is a great experiment. This MQP examines the geopolitical landscape of the new Europe. The thesis is that the closest historical parallel to the European Union is to be found in the national experience of that nation that defies that logic of nineteenth and twentieth century nationalism - the Swiss Confederation. The history of the Swiss Confederation is rich enough that Switzerland can legitimately be seen as a microcosm of a larger Europe.
