Abstract

The objective of this project was to study the efficacy of MTBE removal using Brita filters, and explore the possibility of filter regeneration via advanced oxidation once filter capacity was reached. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) was the primary method of detection for MTBE concentration in water. An absorption equilibrium curve was used to produce both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Advanced oxidation using Fenton's reagent was compared to simple desorption using E-Pure water as a way of increasing filter capacity after extended use.
