The purpose of this project was to develop an ultrasound measurement system that could be used to measure the roughness of grinding wheel surfaces based on reflected ultrasound energy measurements. Our system used a PC to analyze the mean energy of many points along a rotating wheel that was partially submerged in water. We then compared our readings with those taken from other techniques and determined that our system is useful in determining roughness characteristics of Norton/Saint Gobain's grinding wheels.
