Abstract

The water gas shift reaction (WGS) is a common catalytic reaction with many commercial applications. Extensive literature research was conducted to gain an understanding of the reaction itself, various catalysts used in the reaction, and the kinetic model of the reaction so that eventually low temperature shift catalysts may be rationally designed for fuel cell applications. Experimental data was obtained over three catalysts: Cu/Zn/AI0, Fe0/C0-CuO, and Pt/AI0. Finally, the experimental data was compared with theoretical predictions from the WPI microkinetic model, developed by the Datta Research Group.
