Crusberg, Theodore C.
This investigation evaluated the effects of protein oxidation on Bacillus subtilis spores that were treated with Fenton reagents. The Fenton reaction produces hydroxyl radicals, which are harmful oxidative agents to biomolecules. The ultimate goal of this Major Qualifying Project (MQP) was to determine if the Fenton Reaction could oxidize spore coat proteins in Bacillus subtilis and if these oxidized proteins could be detected and even quantified by using SDS-PAGE, Western blotting and a spectrophotometric assay.
