Abstract

This project, sponsored by SRI International in Menlo Park, California, involved designing, manufacturing, and testing a fiber Ethernet board to support the Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar project. Radar pulses cause electromagnetic Interference (EMI), which inhibits communication using copper cable. Since fiber optic cable is immune to EMI, a fiber Ethernet board provides improved communication. This board had to comply with PC104 specifications, be operable between -40?C and 60?C, support the Linux operating system, and use an MT-RJ fiber connector.
