Abstract
This report, prepared for Baxter HealthCare in Cartago, Costa Rica, contains a description of a two-month study for standardization of production changeover activities in five I.V. set assembly lines. Prior [to] the team's arrival in Costa Rica, research in topics related to production changeover simplification methods and cycle time reduction, from experienced professionals in the field, such as Shingeo Shingo, was conducted. Through intense work observing production changeover operations, interviewing employees, and studying time measurements, the team developed 23 recommendations for improving changeover processes at Baxter HealthCare-Cartago. As a result of standardizing and improving production changeover activities, the total changeover cycle time had the ability to be reduced by 20%, generating $117,000 in saving per year.
