Abstract

Through organization, proper scheduling, and a good design the amount of time spent on a project can be decreased. A decrease in time means a decrease in cost. Through the study of delays and stoppages on the project of the Worcester County Trial Courthouse, it can be determined where and why major problems occur. By incorporating a three dimensional view that can be linked to a schedule, it is possible to avoid some of these problems. With a well thought out design of a technically difficult aspect of a structure, money can be saved with a decrease in the labor and materials involved. Our project introduced 3-D scheduling to the general contractors on the job site. We were also able to produce an accurate account of where and why setbacks occur. A full analysis of the original and current steel connection gave us the basis of our new design for the structural firm involved in the project. This new design will allow for a much quicker assembly which will save time and money through a decrease in labor at these connections.
