The objective of this Major Qualifying Project was to identify a strategic plan for migrating inventory management data from a labor-intensive inventory control system to a predominantly automated system. The rationale for completing this project was to incorporate state of the art inventory management capabilities to mitigate risk and improve processes. The methods utilized include observations and interviews, axiomatic design and other industrial engineering concepts to optimize system performance. Conclusions of project implementation indicated a Net Present Value estimated at approximately $240,000 and system migration presents the opportunity to conserve labor requirements by approximately 500 hours in a 5-year period. This presents a reallocation opportunity for the Trident program.
