Powder Feeder Redesign for Laser Assisted Cold Spray

The focus of this project, being conducted in strong collaboration with an industry partner, IPG Photonics, is an investigation of powder feeder technology and the design of a new feeder. The challenge of accurately controlling mass flow rate provided the opportunity for the development of a novel feeding concept that uses a specialty designed, geometrically slotted, rotating disk assembly. The study also analyzes powder flow and the mixing of multiple powder streams in a turbulent gas environment.
