Abstract

Mitochondria are organelles that are integral for cell function, providing the cell with its required energy. Impaired mitochondria have been linked to the development of diseases. Recent studies have suggested that damage to mitochondria leads to hyper-differentiation of neurons which can be linked to autism. In this project, we tested the ability of a novel mitochondrial enzyme to control neuronal cell differentiation. We find that activation of this enzyme by reduced neuronal differentiation.
