The purpose of this Major Qualifying Project was to design and build a digital sensor system for a Formula SAE race car. Each year, WPI prepares a new car for the Formula SAE Michigan Design Competition. A number of design changes were identified to be applied to this year's vehicle as a result of design judging at competition, as well as in-house analysis. For this year’s interdisciplinary team, the focus was to build the base infrastructure for acquiring data from sensors in the car and display them on a live platform. The system was constructed combining a Raspberry Pi, analog and digital sensors, a cloud-based application, and a live user interface. The goal of this system is to aid the engineering team and competition judges to understand each subsystem’s testing and performance.
