Abstract

In 2018, it was estimated that the global market for topical products valued at over 9 billion dollars in 2014. The load of treating these wounds has grown due to these issues: health care costs, and aging population. Another issue is that in the United States there was a rise in the number of patients with diabetes and obesity. Currently, some treatments that can deal with wound healing include antibiotics, ointments, band-aids, etc. The steps of wound healing are homeostasis, inflammation, growth & rebuilding and strengthening. This project aims to design and produce a new and renovated hydrogel. This new hydrogel will provide an additional amount of oxygen to the affected wounded area. The new product was tested for whether oxygen was still being produced once the batch was completed.
