A potential exists to harness energy from the fluid flow phenomenon of vortex induced vibration. A mathematical model was created to predict the mechanical power of elastically mounted PVC cylinders in an open channel flow tank. The experiment tested cylinder behavior over a range of 5E3<Re<1.5E4, varying mass, stiffness, and aspect ratio. Available power and efficiency were calculated for each cylinder. The 1.0in cylinder was calculated to have a maximum power density of 10.3W/m^3. Further testing protocol were proposed.
