THE EFFECT OF BIOMASS PARTICLE SIZE ON PRODUCT DISTRIBUTION OF THE HYDROTHERMAL LIQUEFACTION OF PINE WOOD

Hydrothermal liquefaction of pine wood was studied in a batch setting to understand the effects of particle size on bio-oil yield and compound distribution. Experiments were conducted at a temperature of 300ºC and approximately 1500 psig. Using analytical techniques, liquid and solid products’ compounds were determined. Suitable computational theories were identified for quickly approximating key reactions for hydrothermal liquefaction of wood. Particle size was found to have a negligible effect on product yield and compound distribution within the parameters studied.
