Henriette d'Angeville climbed Mont Blanc with a large group of guides on September 4, 1838. After the ascent, she met Marie Paradis who had made the first female ascent of Mont Blanc in 1808. Angeville also prepared a lavishly illustrated album recording her journey. This image of Angeville in the climbing outfit was reproduced from an watercolor in her album and published in a French alpine journal in 1893.
